License: Finance Simulator

Finance Simulator is free to use, but it is not open source. I wrote it and I keep the rights to it. This page says what that means in practice.

What You CAN Do

Use the tool: Use the calculator at https://finance.chriscoffin.design/ at no cost, with no account.
Learn from it: Look at how it works, including the code your browser receives, to study and understand it.
Build your own: Use what you learn as reference or inspiration for your own financial tools, written yourself. I encourage this.
Share it: Tell others about Finance Simulator and link to https://finance.chriscoffin.design/.
Quote it: Quote short passages with credit and a link back.
Report issues: Send bug reports and feature requests through the feedback form in the app or by email.

What You CANNOT Do

Republish the site: Do not copy and host this site, the tool or significant portions of its code, text or design under a different domain or name.
Claim authorship: Do not claim you created Finance Simulator or its code.
Remove attribution: Do not remove copyright notices or author credits.
Commercial repackaging: Do not bundle, resell or package this tool as a commercial product, or charge for a hosted copy, without my written permission.
Confuse people about origin: Do not use my name or the Finance Simulator name in a way that suggests I made, run or endorse your project.

About the Code

The calculator's source code is not published, and no open-source licence applies to it. Your browser receives the code needed to run the tool, and you may read it to learn. Receiving it is not a licence to copy, modify or redistribute it. If you want to reuse part of it, email me and ask.

If you build something inspired by this work, write it yourself, credit the idea where it came from, and make clear what is your own work.

Other People's Work

Parts of the tool are not mine, and they keep their own licences: the Figtree and Caveat fonts (SIL Open Font License 1.1) and the React, prop-types and Recharts libraries (MIT, with Recharts' bundled components under their own licences). Their full notices are in third-party-licenses.txt. Wealthsimple and other names mentioned in the app belong to their owners.
